TVBR Adopted Dogs
Because we were formerly the West Tennessee Branch of TVBR and hosted the TVBR web site, we moved the TVBR Adopted Bassets to this site.
East TennesseeMiddle Tennessee

If you previously adopted a basset from TVBR or WTBR and want to add a photo of your hound or some special words about your hound, please . He is especially friendly to persons who adopt rescues. And if I have something wrong, just tell me. I will fix it.

Rainbow Bridge PoemUbu - This grand old man was left at the Nashville, TN animal shelter at the age of 12.

I am a grand old basset With the help of Mauna Crabtree and Craig Owensby in Nashville, we got Ubu out and to Memphis.  On 11/3/1998, Ubu was adopted by Tammy Jordan and her then 8 yr. old basset, Crystal, in Memphis, TN.

In Feb 2003, Tammy wrote -
"Ubu was 12 years old when he came to live with us. After a few months, he stopped whining when he saw a pickup truck pass our house and stopped sniffing every parked truck we encountered on our walks. He obviously remembered someone who meant something to him … it's a shame the courtesy wasn't returned.

My friends didn't want me to adopt a 12 year old dog… they didn't want me to get my heart broken over what we all thought would be a short term commitment. Ubu is now in his 17th year and is as healthy as a horse. He is such a little clown that everyone he meets becomes attached to him. The same folks who tried to talk me out of the adoption are now convinced he will outlive us all.

We (my 12 year old Basset and I) have long since adapted to Ubu's "little old man" routines: his feeding schedules, his times to patrol our fence-line and his naps. Despite his questionable treatment in the past (an X-ray showed shotgun pellets in his behind) this is the most loving, gentle dog. Not only is he my "poster child" for senior adoption, he is a long-eared lesson for all of us in forgiveness and acceptance."

On 3/17/2003, Ubu quietly went to the Rainbow Bridge with Tammy holding him. Ubu lived as a very spoiled and loved companion for the remainder of his life. He is greatly missed.

paw Duncan was adopted by Brenda Gilliam and family in Sept 1998.

Duncan being spoiled Duncan was the first dog we rescued with the intent of finding a home other than our own.  We got very attached to him and still love him very much.  As you can tell Duncan is doing very well in his new home.

The Dunker

The Life and Times of Sir Duncan

Duncan was on death row at the Memphis Animal Shelter.  A friend called us about him and I went to see about him.  When I saw him I new he was not all basset but he was sweet and very loving even in the shelter.  He was a young dog picked up as a stray.  An act of faith, a voice in my hear (you just have to try), is all that allows me to tell Duncan's story and express our, and his new owners joy.  I did the paperwork, paid the money, and then waited to see if he was heartworm negative.  If he tested positive, that was it.  He could not be adopted.  He tested negative and was scheduled for neutering.  I picked him up the next day and carried him to my car.  We added Duncan to our family of five bassets and soon he was just like one of the pack.  Andrew had Duncan became fast friends.  Running and romping together most of the time they were not sleeping.

We had Duncan for almost six months.  In that time he grew, and grew, and grew.  It became obvious that he was a basset rottweiler mix with the best attributes of both breeds.  He was easy going and loyal, alert when awake yet slept like a log, and very affectionate.   He took to house training easily but liked to chew which is expected with a young dog.  He was first adopted by a lady who loved him greatly but she became seriously ill within a month of adopting Duncan.  We took Duncan back joyfully.  We had missed him.  A month later he had another family and we said good by to Duncan a second time.  This has got to be one of the hardest parts of rescuing.
