Adoption Information

Please check with your local rescue first.
Click here for links to other Basset rescues

We prefer to adopt our rescues within the TN, eastern AR, northern MS, and western KY area. If you are outside this area we will contact the basset rescue in your area and advise them. We will also request their assistance in checking your qualifications. A printable and a on-line Adoption Application is at the bottom of this page

Policies

  1. We take bassets from shelters in the east and west TN, eastern AR, northern MS, and western KY area when they are in danger of being put-down due to over crowding or cannot be properly cared for by the shelter. When we have room, we also will take bassets from owners who can no longer care for them due to adversity on a case-by-case basis.
  2. We prefer to adopt our rescues within the east and west TN, eastern AR, northern MS, and western KY area.
  3. All bassets are spayed or neutered, current on all shots, and on heartworm preventative prior to being adopted.
  4. If a basset has heartworms when rescued we have it treated if feasible.
  5. We will advise you of any known health issues.
  6. We attempt to identify any socialization issues and correct them. We will advise you of any that are uncorrected.
  7. We will not take or allow to be adopted a known biter.
(Nibbling or mouthing is not biting)
  8. We may recommend you do not adopt the basset you apply for if we feel it would not be suitable for your environment.
  9. We start or complete house training, if necessary and time permits. You will need to do some house training in your new environment.
  10. We have a 14 day trial period to help determine if yours is the right home for the basset.
  11. We will come and check your home to identify any issues known to affect bassets. Poor fencing and lots of stairs are the most common.
  12. We will provide advice to help you correct any issues that come up after you adopt a basset from us.

Requirements

  1. Willing to allow the basset to live in the house and be a part of the family.
  2. Securely fenced back yard if the basset is to be outdoors unattended.
  3. No dogs can be staked, chained, or tied in any way!

Adoption Process

    1. The first step in adopting one of our rescues is to complete an Adoption Application. We have an on-line Adoption Application that will be e-mailed to us OR a printable Adoption Application you can complete and mail to us OR if you need an application mailed to you, please contact us.
    2. Once we have received and reviewed your Adoption Application, the we will contact you.  Sometimes there may be a waiting period in order for us to find the right basset for you and your family.
    3. PLEASE BE PATIENT: We are all volunteers with regular jobs and family in addition to our basset rescue work.  We will e-mail or contact you as soon as we can.  If you call us and request us to return your call and it is long distance call, please give us permission in your phone message to call you back collect - or - allow us to call you then you call us back.  The less we spend on long distance phone calls, the more money we will have available to spend directly on our rescue bassets.
